Read: Psalm 46
Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
“God is good!” “All the time!” “All the time!” “God is good”
I trust you’ve heard that Christian affirmation before. Simple. True. Impassioned. My post this week is on how we experience the goodness of God. Today is “May Day”. There are three things associated with “May Day”.
1. May 1st is associated with spring – often spring flowers are in beautiful bloom (ok, maybe not in Michigan). Extraordinary, beautiful days occur around this time.
2. May Day is internationally associated with a day celebrating workers/labor. We have “Labor Day” in the U.S. so that focus is more international than American.
3. “Mayday” is the international radio signal for distress or life threatening emergencies. We’ve all seen movies where the pilot of an airplane in trouble is radioing the distress call, “Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!”
Given enough time I think that each of us could remember a time when we have known the comfort, strength, and goodness of God in all of these circumstances. God is present in the beauty of God’s creation. God can be found in the purpose and perspective of our tasks and work. God is an ever present help is our times of trouble. The goodness of God can be experienced in any and all of these moments in life. “God is good!”, “All the time!”. “All the time!” , “God is good!”.
I like the way the psalmist concludes his poem: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” Psalm 46:10-11
May you have the eyes to see, the ears to hear, and the heart to know that God is with you always, and may it help you to live life fully and abundantly.
